Mermaid Biology

• breathing air or water without the need for gills
• speaking and singing underwater
• immune to the effects of water pressure
• extremely tolerant of varying temperatures
• magnetoreception, aka a sensory modality involving magnetic fields used for orientation and navigation. this will not be nerfed, but if Zhautas has different magnetic fields than Earth, it will confuse her enough to effectively count as a nerf.
• The Mermaid Problem: yes, she has a vagina. her 'nads are modeled off of a dolphin; they have vagina and clitoris both. you can't tell by looking at her; they're hidden behind scales that more or less magically look smooth (like a mermaid in art) unless she's feeling Randy.
• only need to sleep about 5 hours a night
• only NEED to eat once every 2 days
• can very occasionally eat human flesh

Powers she has all the time:

• shapeshifting (see section below)
• immortal radar
  • this means she can "sense" whether someone is mortal or immortal
  • can sense (to some degree) what "pantheon" they are.
    this WILL be nerfed slightly, just by virtue of not being in her world. different beings from different worlds have different spiritual and energy signatures; it will make "reading" them rather more difficult. I'll have a permissions post for this.
  • can sense if a mortal can do magic
• magpie drawn to shiny things, slightly klepto
• sex-based enthrallment (see section below, WILL be nerfed)
• temperature tolerance (see mermaid biology)

Powers she has in mermaid form:

• shapeshifting (see section below)
• siren song (see section below)
• extremely fast swimming- can swim at supersonic speeds if desired
• superhuman strength
• claws and sharp teeth that retract
• communication with water-dwelling animals
• knowing their TRUE name gives you power over them

Shapeshifting:

• shifting between mermaid and human forms
• she can keep her tail on dry land
• cannot keep her legs when FULLY SUBMERGED in water
• her legs vanish when she sleeps
• having something physically in the way of a tail prevents her shifting
  this can be pants, underwear, shoes, socks, or even something as simple as an ankle bracelet.

Siren:

• siren song capable of hypnotizing and luring people
• milder form of this via extended eye contact
• can enthrall with sex
  • if she hypnotises someone and THEN has sex with them, they come under her control. It's not exactly mind control (she couldn't command them to do things, exactly)- more like suggestion and influence.
  • it only lasts 3 days
  • the thrall dying will undo the influence
  • due to Zhautas being a sex game, this WILL be nerfed.

Weaknesses:

• NEEDS to fully submerge in water once per day, or she will be in pain, and eventually start to dry out like a raisin. It's ugly. After long enough (weeks or months), she'll look like this. Gross.
• Knowing their TRUE name gives you power over them.
• legs vanish while sleeping
• they have no soul

Separation of Church and State:

• Mermaids are meant to have two distinct forms: siren and human.
• If she tries to use certain powers in human form (including superhuman strength or siren song), she will temporarily look inhuman, as the monster in her is forced to the surface.
• this includes strange eyes, her hands becoming webbed, vicious claws, and pointed monster fangs/teeth showing.
