Modern earth.
It's mostly like our Earth, but with a few key differences.
Gods, immortal beings, creatures of legend and folklore, and religious beings exist- powered by the amount of belief in them. They are collectively called "divines" or "immortals." They can generally survive their religion being converted away, so long as there are enough legends and oral history about them. As long as they live on in stories and some form of belief.
Being forgotten is a death sentence to an immortal.
For the last two thousand years, Christianity has set the tone. At first an upstart, the new kid in town rapidly picked up steam. It became clear that the Christian "pantheon's" goal was nothing less than total domination of the entire world, and to exterminate every "heathen" still clinging to immortal existence. The related Islamic pantheon has joined them in this goal in an uneasy alliance.
The old gods have thus set out on a mission to cut the cord from humanity. To exist on their own, not as thought-forms of humans. This will help them survive the encroachment of the Abrahamic religions.
